Just like any other sport softball requires consistency, dedication, and teamwork. The 2017 Cedar Ridge softball season began in early February. The team consists of girls from all different grade levels with remarkable playing skills.
“Our season is going pretty strong, we have had a few kinks but we’ve been able to work through them and we’re about to go into our second round of Districts and we have a good mentality going in. We have a pretty good team both on and off the field and we’re all just having fun,” Miranda Swanberg (12) said.
Hard work is obvious, but fun is also imperative to the team’s success.
“Our team is really outgoing and pretty fun off the field. We mess with each other a lot but we’re also really hard on each other, so it pushes us to be better,” Breanna Hernandez (12) said.
This also contributes to their team chemistry.
“While being on the field it’s really great knowing that everyone on the team has your back and that you’re about to make a good play. It’s just really exciting being so close to your team and being able to be there with those people,” Katie Repa (10) said.
While some of the girls playing for the team have been playing for a really long time, others are barely getting involved, but everyone is putting in the same effort and they’re all working towards their individual and team goals.
“I started playing when I was about five years old because my dad played baseball and my older brother played baseball, so I’ve been playing all throughout my childhood,” Swanberg said.
Everyone has a different story on why they are where they are now.
“I got into softball because of my older sisters and I decided that I’m going to play collegiate- at the University of Incarnate Word,” Hernandez said.
Some of the seniors have committed to playing softball in college.
“I’ve committed to play college softball and I got into the sport because of my best friend when I was about six years old,” Repa said.
The season just ended with the Raider softball team making it to the fourth round of playoffs. They put up a good fight and hope to make it further next season.
