7 Last Minute Valentine’s Day Date Ideas
February 13, 2018
Scrambling for a last minute Valentine’s date idea? Stop panicking, because there are plenty of unique dates out there that are sure to express your deep and undying love for your valentine.
1. Fancy Dinner Date
An elegant dinner date is one of the most popular date ideas, but for good reason. Take a few bucks out of your savings, dress to impress, and treat your S.O. to dinner at a boujee restaurant in the Domain. Just don’t forget to make a reservation ahead of time or you might end up sacrificing your candle-lit dinner for an ever-romantic Patty Melt at Whataburger (unless that’s your ideal date; in that case go for it). Be kind to your date, your waiter, and perhaps most importantly, your date’s parents!
2. Explore Austin
For the adventurous couple, a day spent exploring the city is full of fun and romantic opportunities. Visit the graffiti park (before it gets torn down this year), have a picnic at the Zilker Botanical Garden, or browse shops on South Congress. This date is as fun as you choose to make it, so fill the day with activities you’ll both enjoy. Make sure to take lots of cute pics!
3. Cook a Meal
Everyone knows that food is the gateway to the heart, so show off your Gordon Ramsay cooking skills by handcrafting a romantic dinner for two. Whether you serve a fancy stuffed lamb chop or a plate of dino-shaped chicken nuggets with a wine glass full of chocolate milk, this thoughtful gesture is an instant winner. You don’t even have to leave the house; just light some candles, set out some flowers, and curate a v-day playlist to set the scene for a charming little evening together.
4. Do Something Crafty
As cheesy as it may seem, doing a cute art project with your S.O. is a great way to get to know each other while channeling your inner Picasso. Whether it’s painting on canvas or building a sketchy DIY birdhouse, this sweet little date is ideal for the creative at heart. However, if you decide painting isn’t your forte, you can always take a trip to an art museum instead and take cute pictures with an obligatory caption about how “she thought the art was pretty but I thought she was prettier”.
5. Order Takeout and Make a Fort
For the couple that would rather spend a cozy evening at home in sweatpants, nothing is better than ordering some takeout food, making a good ol’ fashioned blanket fort, and watching an 80’s rom com together. Why go out on an expensive date night when you can spend your evening in total comfort, sharing an overpriced assortment of chocolates? Bonus points if you wear matching Valentine’s Day fuzzy socks.
6. Scavenger Hunt
Creating a romantic scavenger hunt is a perfect way to show just how much you care about someone. Gather some cute pictures, candles, rose petals, and little clues that point to some kind of gift or romantic gesture at the end of the hunt. The thoughtfulness and effort this one requires makes it an absolute winner! You could even turn it into a promposal and secure a prom date and valentine in one fell swoop.
7. When All Else Fails: Treat. Yo. Self.
If you find yourself without plans with a special someone on Wednesday, treat. yo. self. Make a romantic dinner for one, arrange some flowers for yourself, or splurge on some online shopping. For the guy or gal who would rather fly solo, there’s nothing more fun than dedicating an evening to yourself. Guys: shamelessly play Fortnite for hours and hours; after all, we all know your bros are the best valentines you could ask for. Ladies: get a manicure and run a super luxurious bubble bath while eating an entire carton of chocolate covered strawberries. Treat. Yo. Self.
