The Cedar Ridge Art Club won two awards at the Chalk Walk at the Dell Diamond on Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5. Twenty-three students worked for three hours on Friday night and eight hours on Saturday on three 10ft x 10ft artworks.

Out of twelve possible awards, the Art Club won: second place for Best High School Work for Hannah Mendelsohn’s (11) “Bird Stealing A RR Donut”, and Best Masterpiece for the Art Club Officers’ rendition of Vladimir Tretchikoff’s classic painting “Chinese Girl”. The third work of art was done by Helen Truong (10), who describes her work as a vibrant and colorful picture of a woman with a wrap around her head.

“My teacher showed me other works from previous Chalk Walks and decided to base them off of those,” Truong said. “[The Art Club members] were super excited to get some awards, and they felt like they accomplished something. Of course they’d be excited to win.”

At the Chalk Walk, tens of thousands of people welcomed over a hundred artists creating large chalk pieces in the Dell Diamond parking lot. The event also included a show by the Central Texas Philharmonic, the Round Rock Community Choir, and the Round Rock Ballet Folklorico, as well as a music lineup with performances by Susan Hickman, Tomar and the FC’s, Hector Ward and the Big Time, and Carli Hutson and Good Company.

“It was really hot, and [our piece] took a long time, but it was worth it,” said Art Club Treasurer Sarah Turner (11).

Art Club meets every Friday during Flex Time in room E141, and are currently working on designing a logo for a new school t-shirt.
